Hawaii Open Volunteers

 

Mahalo to our 2020 volunteers!

This would not be possible without such a wonderful group of people coming together to support tennis in Hawaii. The Hawaii Open is returning to Hawaii this December 18-20, 2020.

2020 Volunteer Committees 

BALL TEAM

This is a unique and unforgettable experience where you are on-court assisting players to compete at their highest level. There are more than 100 ball kids vying for these positions so read the requirements carefully below and sign-up today!

Ball team monitors

Ball Team monitors are adults that assist with the operations of the Ball person lounge. They assign courts to the
ball kids, organize the lounge, control the supplies, and more. They may
also be assigned as on-court “monitors”, to serve as the point of
contact on their respective court for the ball persons.

Court Services

The court services committee is responsible for providing water and sports drinks and making sure that towels are stocked and ready for players on court at all times.

credentials

The credential team organizes and distributes all of the official tournament credentials.

Meal Team

The meal team will make sure all the volunteers receive meal tickets for the day. They will also make sure any food that needs to be ordered for delivery is done.

Medical RN

The Medical RN Committee works closely with Emergency Medical & First Aid to assist with all first-aid requests and medical emergencies on-site. They assist the onsite doctor. Registered nurses only please.

Player Locker Room (ATP)

(Men only for men’s locker room)

Player Locker Room volunteers serve as locker room attendants just prior to and during the Tournament. They assist players with all locker room needs, keep the locker room stocked with
necessary items, and keep the locker room organized and tidy. They
are also responsible for keeping inventory on clean and dirty towels, assigning lockers on a daily basis, supporting the training room as needed, and assist with special requests from players.

Player locker room (WTA)

(Women only for women’s locker room)

 Player Locker Room volunteers serve as locker room attendants just prior to and during the Tournament. They assist players with all locker room needs, keep the locker room stocked with
necessary items, and keep the locker room organized and tidy. They
are also responsible for keeping inventory on clean and dirty towels, assigning lockers on a daily basis, supporting the training room as needed, and assist with special requests from players.

Player services

The Player Services committee manages the Player Lounge and serve as the main point of contact for the players during the
tournament and throughout their stay in Hawaii. They perform a variety of tasks, while maintaining the Player Lounge
area to keep it comfortable and accommodating to the players
and their guests/families. They also serve as a concierge for the
players, providing them information and tickets on local attractions, restaurants, etc.

Programs

The Program Committee volunteers are responsible for distributing and delivering programs and daily draw sheets to
appropriate points of sale, and other areas around the venue.
They are also responsible for organizing and supervising the
group of volunteers who sell the programs, and are responsible
for collecting cash periodically from point of sale locations.

public relations

The Public Relations Committee main functions are to staff the
Press Box and support the media in attendance. The volunteers
assist the Hawaii Open public relations staff and serve as the main point of contact for the worldwide media. Volunteers with strong skills in social media and tennis knowledge appreciated.

purchasing team

The purchasing team will handle those last minute supply runs. We find that no matter how much prepare, there are always unexpected needs. They will work directly for the Volunteer Director. 

special events team

These volunteers assist the event promotions department who oversee all special events, promotions, gifting, decorating, gate giveaways and more!  Being creative and flexible is appreciated.

Sponsor Hospitality (VIP)

The Sponsor Hospitality Committee is the main point of contact
for the sponsor hospitality tents. They are the gatekeepers of the
area and check for tent passes to allow or deny access to this
area, assist with troubleshooting sponsor requests in this area or
get help as needed from the appropriate people or committee.
They also act as liaison between the sponsors and the caterer. 

translation (VIP)

The translation team will work with our VIP patrons from Japan, translating  from Japanese into English and back.

Transportation

The Transportation Committee is responsible for providing transportation for players, coaches, staff, VIPs, umpires, and the media to and from the airport, hotels, and the tournament site as needed. Drivers should have good working knowledge of the area and routes to local airports and venues.

transportation (airport Greeters)

The airport greeter volunteers are stationed in the baggage claim
area at the airports. They help to monitor the arrival of tournament passengers as well as greet and provide instructions
where the parties are to meet their tournament provided
transportation.

volunteer lounge

The Volunteer Lounge committee responsibilities include wiping
down tables and replenishing snacks, but not the actual food preparation. The goal of this committee is to provide a clean and inviting area where other volunteers can come to relax during their breaks. 

Volunteer services

Volunteers must be multi-tasked and personable. Volunteers oversee the Volunteer Center lounge, keeping the area and tables clean, distributing radios, information to volunteers and staffing gate giveaways. They provide support to volunteers with comments, suggestions or complaints and act as liaison to the Director of Volunteers.

The Volunteer Coordinator Assistant is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the volunteer programs with the Volunteer Coordinator.
